My Take on My Life:

I am just Jayel from Port Orford. I enjoy giggling with friends, playing with my critters, and leisurely dinners at 'The Crazy Norwegian.' I like cafe breves in the morning and Ben and Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream in the evening.

I love the forest, seashore and fog that clothe the southern Oregon coast. I am a wanderer and dreamer, a student of Celtic history, folklore and faith, and an avid PC gamer. In addition, I write a little fantasy.

My Publicist's Version:

In addition to a full-time writing career, Jayel Gibson serves as an adjunct professor at Southwestern Oregon Community College where she teaches writing for publication. She is a two time Teacher of the Year award recipient for her innovative use of technology and video gaming in the classroom. Ms. Gibson is also the online book club moderator for Realms of Fantasy Magazine. She has been a contributor for Louisiana Parent’s Magazine, Dallas Child Magazine, Education.com and Thefatherlife.com. You can visit www.ancientmirrors.com or www.jayelgibson.com for more information on Jayel Gibson and her award winning Ancient Mirrors fantasy series.

PC Crankiness

"The universe is transformation; life is opinion." - Marcus Aurelius I am rested and at peace. I know this to be true because this morning my main computer (the new one with the dual video cards) refused to boot up. 'Tis brain damaged, I know this, in fact I am the cause. As a PC gamer I am well aware of the havoc that game code can cause, and since I am constantly tweaking code and over-clocking it is my own fault. "Can't do it," he said in grating harddrive vibrato, "my machine code is scramb… Continue

QUONDAM Wins Its Second Award

That makes five for the Ancient Mirrors series (and there are only four books *grin*). I'm feeling a little like a helium balloon at the moment. Here's the release that will go out tomorrow! Jayel, Since you are an award winning author (congrats) contact the office. www.dragoncon.org they have dozens of writers every year. The "guest" status ranges from free entry to the con to full travel, expenses and comped room. Depends on how many people they think would like to see you. If you have a fan club, get them to write to Dragon*Con on your behalf. It is HUGE and really fun.

I new to SciFi talk and very happy with the 4 netcasts I've heard so far.

Anybody else here a regular at Dragon*Con in Atlanta?

I've had my Mongo nickname for over 30 years. I wear it with pride, and deserve it from my "glory days". :) Zhun is my Scifi name for Ogame and Eve. I enjoy all types of Scifi, with Asimov and Heinlein molding my philosophy. I LOVE 50's Scifi!!!!! Great fun!!!!!!!

Good luck with the meetings. Hey at least in LA there's a chance and interest in these kind of things- in the UK you're usually met with wild-indifference, even if what you're suggesting makes perfect sense and would make money. No I rephrase- especially if it would! ha ha.
I'm hopeful about Dreamscape- if we get a good deal we'll take all the lessons learn (of which there have been many) and move onto new film which will be a great relief after 3 and a half years. New film be done a lot quicker!!! ;-)

Hey Jayel,
We're hoping to lock the sound mix tomorrow.. I'm having final FX shots dropping in place all this week... fingers crossed the final cut of the film will be done by the end of this week!!!! All very exciting! As soon as its done publicity and so on kicks off followed by serious work on next film... a 1940s monster movie... although that's a very simplified description of what the film will be!
Ta for asking... how are things with you?

I just had a Sopranos DVD marathon the other night (last six episodes of the last season). I had only planned on watching a couple for the night, but became so intrigued that I had to see how it ended. Next up is Babylon 5 -- a friend gave me the first three seasons as a gift, so I'm looking forward to it immensely as I've only seen about 10 episodes around season 4.

I will have to look out for Firefly. Thanks for the recommendation, Jayel.
I'm presently enjoying getting into Babylon5 (I don't know how I missed it when it aired, especially with Harlan Ellison as creative consultant -- one of my fave writers) and I'm watching The Sopranos on DVD. I tend to watch more movies than anything else, rather than television because I find it hard to sit through commercials. But I do like to pick stuff up on DVD. LOST is another show I hear so much about but have yet to see, but my brother collects the DVDs so that's another I'll catch up on.

Hi Jayel,
Now I would *love* to go to that (the BookExpo). I missed my fix this year, which is Polaris, a huge SF & Fantasy con held in Toronto each year. Unfortunately, none of my friends share my love of science fiction and fantasy literature, so Polaris is my chance to connect. However, I did turn two friends on to the novel SPIN by Robert Charles Wilson a few years back and they both loved it and raved about it. But alas, they haven't taken another dip. Then again, one of them loves STARGATE and I just can't get into it, so it's different strokes....
