Hello,

I just wanted to introduce myself to you and tell you about a NEW TV show I have currently running. It's a trial run to see what type of response we get from our viewers. If satisfactory, we'll have a chance to pitch it to the networks for next year.

"Digital Transition" SciFi/Action, judge it for yourself. Episode 1 & 2 are now running and the next episode will start running October 17, 2009.
To view: www.pehjproductions.net then click (digital transition tv ch) tab.

"There's an analog signal traveling to earth to warn us of an alien attack."

Hi Lynda. I'm more of a science fiction person, but I'm reading a good fantasy novel by David Anthony Durham called Acacia. A very good book so far. Charles Saunders' Imaro series is also very good.

Robert Charles Wilson does a wonderful job of giving us characters to feel for and care about in SPIN, Lynda. And he imparts a beautiful 'sense of wonder.' I recommended it two of my friends that don't ordinarly read SF and they loved it. It's one of the better ones and deserved the awards.

I think the reason for this is so much SF is written by scientists. Scientists make for good science, but alas, sometimes the ideas are technology is our saviour and the characterization and quality of the writing itself suffers. I'm currently reading THROUGH BLACK SPRUCE (Giller Prize winner) and the level of writing is superb. The characters are so well drawn, you immediately become a part of their lives. Another book I really enjoyed reading this year was THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE by Audrey Niffennegger. Robert Charles Wilson's Science Fiction seems to get it right, especially his novel SPIN.

I'm finding that there are some big ideas shooting around in graphic novels, not necessarily the super hero comic books, but when you step out of that, the graphic novel or comic can be a very potent form of storytelling. And as for the big philosophical questions, look no further than SF to deal with those questions. After all, it is a literature of ideas.
