The Big Blog Theory

S03E17: The Precious Fragmentation

Viewers tonight may have anticipated disappointment, that there was no physics to blog about in this evening’s episode.  But of course physics is everywhere. Tonight our friends Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard acquire a “Lord of the Rings” ring.   The “One Ring”, we’re told, to bind the Rings of Power of the land of Middle Earth.  [...]

S03E16: The Excelsior Acquisition

Tonight Sheldon wants to ask Stan Lee how the Silver Surfer uses his silver surfboard to accomplish interstellar flight.  As well he should!   Nobody, not even Sheldon, knows how we are going to travel between stars. Proxima Centauri is our best bet.  It is the closest star to our home orbiting around our own star, [...]

S03E15: The Large Hadron Collision

In tonight’s episode, Leonard finds he is invited to Large Hadron Collider, “the LHC”.   In case this ever happens to you, I have a handy phrasebook at the end of the post.  But first, even though the LHC has had about a billion dollars of news coverage over the past two years, there may [...]

S03E14: The Einstein Approximation

The hottest material in physics can be made with a pencil and Scotch tape.   That’s “hottest” in popularity, not temperature.  When a new, interesting, material is discovered, teams of physicists will race against each other to figure it out.   This decade’s material-of-the-century is graphene. Graphene is merely chicken wire made with carbon atoms…chicken wire that is [...]

S03E13: The Bozeman Reaction

My favorite word in physics is zitterbewegung.  Coming in at close seconds are bremsstrahlung and ansatz.  These technical terms mean “rapid oscillation”,  “braking radiation” and “guess” in German.  (I chose not to even mention eigenvector—because I didn’t want to have to explain it.) However, viewers of tonight’s show saw  Sheldon use the most famous of all [...]

An Evening With Neil Gaiman

*may contain spoilers*

It was on a hot July day, I stood in a long line at the San Diego Comic-Con, when a blur of unkempt dark hair ran past me. A woman, a few beats behind, screamed: I love you Neil. It was funny to me. The man and his floppy hair, the woman and her Beatle-mania hysterics, I was intrigued. It was then, in that moment, Neil Gaiman entered my life.

I had heard of him before. The name had floated around me for sometime,… Continue

My Year - 2009

And The Ripples Converge

New Year’s Eve 2009. It’s been one heck of a year for me and as time marches toward 2010, I’ve decided to quickly recap my year with all the stuff that I intended to blog about but didn’t get around to it.

Films:
2012, sucked but knew it would and watched it anyway
Avatar, surprised that I liked it a lot
District 9, Excellent
Gamer, absolutely hated it.
Knowing, I know – lots of people didn’t like it, but I did :/
Land of the Lost, entertaining
Moon, good film
Push, de… Continue

J. Michael Straczynski is one of my favorite writers. He's currently working on a reinterpretation of the scifi classic (and one of my favrite movies), Forbidden Planet. I usually worry when a favorite is being remade but with JMS as the writer...the screenplay is going to be good. JMS also adapted Max Brooks, World War Z...another movie I'm looking forward to. Hello,

I just wanted to introduce myself to you and tell you about a NEW TV show I have currently running. It's a trial run to see what type of response we get from our viewers. If satisfactory, we'll have a chance to pitch it to the networks for next year.

"Digital Transition" SciFi/Action, judge it for yourself. Episode 1 & 2 are now running and the next episode will start running October 17, 2009.
To view: www.pehjproductions.net then click (digital transition tv ch) tab.

"There's an analog signal traveling to earth to warn us of an alien attack."

Thank you for your time.
