When it read "Join Eureka" I nearly fainted. I would have loved to literally join the town of Eureka. It would jingle my jangles. :P

Hmmm.... A good place to move this too would be New Frontiers, or even our very own Astropolis Place, as the main character, Imre, is a god.

It's not as if anyone would care anyway; we created transparent aluminum, another state of matter, and look who gives a dried fig!!??

::Gestures to an uncaring world::

The Higgs boson is theoretical, and can only exist in extremely high temperatures that are beyond your experience, anyway.

And, of course, since we have sat side-by-side many times watching Voyager and Our Good Friend, The Doctor from Voyager, we both know that you are familiar with My Good Friend the Photon, which is a Boson.

::I'm checking in with Our Friends at TREKSPACE another time, listening to the song for a few more rounds before retiring, so I won't answer to the morning or sometime tomorrow.::

ok if we ever manage to create the Higgs Boson, it could have HUGE effects on society; man putting himself in god's place, end times for the fundies of all faiths, the resulting fallout would not be pretty on ANY level. As for the rest, most won't pay attention for a variety of reasons, suffice to say that most people either don't see beyond their own little corner of the world or are scared of what is beyond their corner.

And about future tech, we can see first-hand how the photon has influenced our science-fiction life.

(I'm listening to my music and completing a role-play sim with Out Friends on TREKSPACE.)

Well, it depends on what kind of boson you want to talk about.
My personal favorite is the Higgs Boson, but considering that it hasn't existed naturally (no, we haven't created it, but I am not discounting the possibility that some advanced extraterrestrial civilization might have) for about the entire life-time of the universe, that is out of the question.

The elementary bosons are the particles that control forces. These are: The photon, the gluon, W bosons, and Z bosons. Z and W bosons control the Weak Force. We will not go into composite bosons, since that depends on weather or not the particle has an integer spin, which depends upon the number of fermions in a boson. I won't confuse you with the listing of such bosons.

So, bosons, explained in layman's terms. (I won't bore you with the theoretical astrophysics of Higgs fields being related to the temperature energy of the early universe and the mass of such a Field, and, of course, how this relates and fits into the inflationary and cyclic models of the universe.)

splain Lucy, what are they, then I can answer, provided they will fuel future tech.

OK, so now I'm interested. How do bosons affect the average America-Indonesian citizen?
::Smiles...::

Since I'm a social scientist, I haven't a clue. Doesn't mean I can't get behind it and tell you the implications for society as a whole.
Caitlin Rocco Comment by Caitlin Rocco on August 8, 2009 at 5:17pm
Yes indeed; they must have some good people working on it.
::Remembers watching and hearing, "Do you know what bosons are?" Common knowledge for people like me...::

Yes, I love this show. A town full of really, really smart folks and the 'geeks' and 'nerds' rule. I flippin' hate those two words. Really, who do ya think has kept the world in cool little gizmos and tech toys. Not to mention the perks of modern times. It's just a damn shame that brains are not always an evolutionary imperative. (Banging head against the table) Hope they can keep up the storylines and keep 'em within the realms of at least theoretical science.
