Doctor Who

The centerpiece of BBC AMERICA’s celebrations of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary will be the special anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, premiering on Saturday, November 23. In addition to the episode title and iconic image revealed today, the BBC confirmed the anniversary special will be feature length with 75 minutes of adventure. The Day of the Doctor stars Matt Smith (How to Catch a Monster), David Tennant (Broadchurch), Jenna Coleman (Dancing on the Edge), with Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien). This is the first time David Tennant and Billie Piper have appeared in the series since their farewells in 2010. The special will be a celebration for long-time fans and an opportunity for those new to the series to jump onboard.

Steven Moffat:  And indeed in the 50th you get to see him played by John Hurt as well.Well yeah. He’s always the Doctor. He just gets a different face now and then. It’s an odd thing at script level, the Doctor is very consistent. If you look at the scripts for Chris (Eccleston) , for David and for Matt, you wouldn’t notice that much difference. It’s the way those three very different men play the part. But the you know, if you go into a different body or a different suite you behave a different way. Go into a different body, image what that does to you. He’s consistent, The Doctor, surprisingly so I’d say. More

Matt: We knew even when Jenna got the part.We sort of knew that I was going to go.We talked about it but it wasn’t official in the same way. Me and Steven (Moffat, Who Showrunner) we talked about and obviously those conversations are private and should remain that way. We’re great friends. And he’s very respectful and I’m very respectful of him. We’ve come to a mutual decision that this is the best for the show, really.I felt like perhaps that it was time for someone else to come and have a go.You sort of see season eight leading up towards it.Isn’t it amazing though More
