Batman Death By Design

BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN crafts a mystery around the architecture and design of Gotham City itself. Exploring the sinister truth behind the destruction of Gotham’s most iconic historical landmarks, the story is realized by the collaboration of four-time Eisner award winning writer/designer Chip Kidd and critically acclaimed artist Dave Taylor. The unique take on the Batman mythology is set against the period backdrop of an expansive Gotham City construction boom, combining visual and thematic elements from Fritz Lang‘s Metropolis, Ayn Rand‘s The Fountainhead and Elia Kazan‘s The Waterfront.

A renowned Batman fanatic whose love of the character has been profiled in The New York Times, Kidd is also a New York Times bestselling novelist, graphic designer and publishing industry wunderkind. His unique look at the iconic hero is realized by Taylor’s rich illustrations, which capture the flavor of Gotham as it’s never been seen. A former professional drummer, Taylor’s previous Batman work includes BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT and BATMAN & SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST.

BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN will be released in comic book stores on May 30 and in bookstores on June 5. No traditional superhero slugfest, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN examines the pop culture icon as a product of his environment–a thriving metropolis as fantastic and idiosyncratic as Batman himself.
